2009 Memorial Day Service: Remembering Those Who Have Gone Down To The Sea In Ships

For the past 62 years, the New Bedford Port Society has held their annual Memorial Day Service to recognize all of the brave mariners who sailed out of New Bedford and lost their lives at sea. Here’s a short video of the ceremony that took place on Monday, May 25, 2009.

My Grandfather John F. Machado is on one of your plaques in Seamans Bethel. He was one of the men who went down on the Navigator in 1977. I live in Columbia, MD now but would love to come again soon to see his name. I miss him so much! Thank you for adding this website!

my granpa pendergast was lost at sea off the rush which was later called the terra nova i believe..he was lost in the 60s when i was about three i remember him slightly but my dad and uncles speak of him proudly
